Choice-Making Made Simple

Every day, many times a day, we are called on to make choices. These choices will either send us in the direction we are wishing to go in life, or they won't. It's up to us which way we choose to go.

When making a decision, we are saying ‘yes’ to something and ‘no’ to something else. Take food, for instance. We all have to eat, and most do so several times a day. Some food choices make us feel better than others.

One food that many of us enjoy is pizza. I love pizza, but I don't like how it makes me feel. When I say ‘yes’ to pizza, I am, at the same time, saying ‘no’ to well-being. When I say ‘yes’ to well-being, it is easy to say ‘no’ to pizza.

To succeed in all areas of my life, I need plenty of energy and a clear head. So, what is the best choice for me? I hear a strong inner vote for well-being. And that feels good!

If I focus on the ‘no pizza’ part of the equation and my deprived, ‘ah-poor-me’ state, I put my entire brain/body system into a state of disharmony and stress. Worse, for me, than eating the pizza and savoring every bite!

The trick here is to keep our eyes on what we really want in life: vitality, connection with others, creative expression, financial well-being—all things which help us live a happy, balanced and productive life.

When we say ‘YES’ to what we really want, the “NOs” become insignificant. Choice-making becomes a lot easier in all spheres of living, including the dinner table.

PS: If you'd like to explore the art of conscious choice-making further, read the chapter called Choice in The Yes! in Success or click here and listen to an interview with Leilani Henry.

Celebrating your wonderful choices!
